Goku and Tien agree to keep it a secret that Piccolo's spawn is at the tournament. In the preliminaries, all the fighters get a chance to show off the benefits of their training. Goku demonstrates that he has learned to harness his ki. Tao surfaces again, still alive and now a cyborg. He has entered the tournament and plans to kill Goku and Tien for vengeance.
